ABOUT CSE

Common Sound is a new vocal ensemble dedicated to reaching out to our community and serving in song. We combine the mastery of vocal technique with the artistry of expression. Members will:

  • Learn vocal technique, including breath support, pitch, harmonization, part independence, and much more!
  • Use their voices as a source of energy, creativity, centering, healing and relaxation.
  • Build community and connect with others through the power of song.
  • Share singing with low-access communities, such as shut-ins, care facilities, retirement communities and those who have little to no access to music performance or experiences.

We welcome all voices (soprano, alto, contralto, counter-tenor, tenor, baritone, bass) but seek to balance our parts to expand repertoire and technique. Some members have extensive vocal experience and others little to none.

Rehearsals take place at Westminster Presbyterian Church, 1925 Boulevard Rd SE, Olympia 98501, on the second floor. Rehearsals run on Mondays, October 6th-May 11th, from 5:30-6:30pm. Performance dates are determined by the group members. The cost for the season is $360.

*While there is no formal audition, there is a simple vocal screening to assess pitch matching and range. Members also commit to being positive and supportive of others in the group and are encouraged to make an effort to know each other beyond a surface introduction.
